Football 101
Everything you need to follow a game and hold your own in any conversation about it.
Two teams. One ball. One hundred yards.
Each team gets the ball and tries to move it to the other end of the field. When they carry or catch it into the end zone, that is a touchdown, worth 6 points, plus 1 more for the little kick after. A field goal (kicking it through the tall poles) is worth 3.
Think of it like: It is a relay race where the other team is allowed to tackle you.
Four tries to move 10 yards.
A team gets 4 attempts (downs) to move the ball 10 yards. Make it, and the counter resets to first down and they get 4 more. Fail, and the other team takes over. That is why everyone screams 'FOURTH DOWN' like it is a season finale.
Think of it like: Four swipes to get 10 yards of progress. Miss, and your turn is over.
Every position is a personality type.
Quarterback (QB) is the group-chat admin who touches every play. Running back (RB) runs into traffic on purpose. Wide receiver (WR) is the sprinter who catches. Tight end (TE) is half bodyguard, half receiver. Kicker (K) has one job and infinite pressure. The defense's whole job is to ruin all of it.
Think of it like: QB sets the plan, RB pushes through traffic, WR makes the big entrance, TE protects the play.
